From the wire

Start from a news agency package on your home screen.

The From the wire feed: a Search the wire box, LATEST and TOP STORIES ordering, AP and REUTERS agency filters, an All topics dropdown, and a row of story cards each showing a thumbnail, duration, headline, agency badge, the count of other packages in the story, and where and when it was filed.

Prism opens on From the wire, a live feed of video packages from the news agencies connected to your account.

It is the quickest way to start a story you have no footage for yet. If the story is already on the wire, starting here saves you finding footage twice — and if it is not, uploading your own material works equally well.

Stories and packages

The feed lists stories, not clips. Each card shows a headline, a duration, the agency it came from, and where and when it was filed.

A story is usually a cluster. The + count on a card tells you how many other packages cover the same event, and opening it lists them under More packages in this story, with any alternative cuts under Other cuts & versions.

Agencies file separately, so one story often carries both an AP and a Reuters package, each cut differently and at a different length. Compare them before you choose.

Finding a story

Four controls sit above the feed:

  • Search the wire, for a keyword
  • LATEST and TOP STORIES, which change the ordering
  • AP and REUTERS, which filter by agency
  • All topics, which filters by subject

The feed pages, and shows when it last refreshed.

Looking at a package

Select a package to open its details.

You get a player, so you can watch before committing, and the agency line telling you the source and when it was filed. Below that, More packages in this story lets you move between the other cuts without going back.

The details panel also carries the package's own metadata: where it was shot, its source format, its language, the copyright holder, and the usage terms attached to it.

Starting from a story

Start a project turns the package you are looking at into a new project, with that material already in it.

From there the path is the usual one: add anything else you need, then go to the Assignment Desk and brief the video.

FAQ

Which agencies will I see?

Whichever your account is connected to. The toggles above the feed show what is available to you.

Can I use a wire package in a project I already have?

Add it the same way you add any other material, from inside that project.

Does the feed update on its own?

Yes. The line under the feed tells you when it last refreshed.

Why are the thumbnails not loading?

Give it a moment and reload. The feed pulls from the agencies, so it can be slow.
