Limits and specifications
Sizes, formats and ceilings in one place.
Every figure here also appears in the article it belongs to. This page gathers them in one place.
Limits can change. If a figure here differs from one shown in Prism, use the one in Prism.
Uploads
Prism's two uploaders apply different rules.
| Project uploader | Asset Search | |
|---|---|---|
| Size checked before upload | Yes | No |
| File types | Restricted | Unrestricted before upload |
The project uploader's ceiling is set by your account rather than fixed in the product, so a refusal quotes both figures — your file's size and the maximum it was measured against. Prism names what it skipped and the rest of the batch continues.
The 2 GB figure people remember belongs to anchor video, in the table below — not to this uploader.
An unrestricted uploader is not a promise that anything will work. It means checking happens on the server rather than in your browser.
Supported files has the detail.
Presenter audio and anchor video
| What | Formats | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Presenter audio | WAV, MP3, M4A | 100 MB per file |
| Anchor video | MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM | 2 GB per file |
Presenter uploads and Anchor videos explain what happens after the upload.
Output shape
Prism outputs at two shapes.
| Aspect ratio | Frame |
|---|---|
| 16:9 | 1920 by 1080 |
| 9:16 | 1080 by 1920 |
There is no other choice, and resolution and frame rate are not yours to set. Aspect ratio is chosen in the brief. Vertical video covers switching an edit between the two.
Tracks
There is no fixed number. Music and graphics tracks can both be added repeatedly, and each new one is named in sequence — Music 2, Music 3, and so on. Prism does not stop you at a count and shows no limit message.
Music and audio levels and Graphics explain why you would want a second one.
Renders
An output keeps one render. Rendering again replaces the previous file, and there is no way back to it.
Download anything you want to keep before you re-render. Re-rendering has the detail.
Exports
Unlike renders, exports keep a history.
| Retention | 7 days by default |
| Minimum | 1 day |
| Maximum | 30 days |
Retention takes a whole number of days. When it lapses the row reads Expired and the download is gone — re-export the timeline to get it back.
Exporting to an editor covers the rest.
Limits that vary
Render time varies with the length and complexity of the edit. Credit use depends on the work. Prism does not publish a fixed figure for either.
FAQ
My anchor video is just over 2 GB. What do I do?
Re-encode it at a lower bitrate — the product suggests 1080p H.264 — and upload the new file.
