Matching audio to blocks
How uploaded audio is matched to your script.
You do not tell Prism which recording belongs to which block. It works that out from the words.
Every upload is transcribed, and that transcript is compared against your script. Where the wording lines up, the recording is linked to the block.
Matching is a proposal, not a verdict. You can override it on any block at any point.
How the automatic match reads
A finished card in Presenter uploads names its own result: the block it matched, the length of the recording, and a confidence figure as a percentage. One read often covers several blocks in a row, and the card then lists every block it spans.
If the words match nothing in the script, the card reads No script block match alongside the duration. Nothing is lost in that case — the recording stays in the panel, ready to link by hand.
Reading a block's state
A block with no recording behind it reads Drop audio file or voiceover here. Hovering that hint explains the two ways in: drag a recording from your computer, or drag a voiceover card from the right panel.
While a recording is being attached, the block shows how far it has got:
| The block says | What it means |
|---|---|
| Uploading… with a percentage | The file is still going up |
| Processing voiceover… | The upload landed and is being transcribed |
| Voiceover upload failed | It did not complete — try again |
A linked block shows the recording rather than a hint, and Clear link removes it.
Each block also shows its presenter and mode above the text — PRESENTER with either VOICE ONLY or ON CAMERA.
Linking a recording by hand
Two gestures do this, and both drop onto the block itself.
- Drag a finished card from the panel onto a block, which reads Drop to link voiceover
- Drag a file from your computer onto a block, which reads Drop to upload and link
Dropping a file straight onto a block links it immediately, before the upload finishes, so you can carry on working elsewhere.
Only the first file is taken when you drop several onto one block. Send the rest through the panel.
What a manual link replaces
A manual link overwrites whatever the block had before, without asking you to confirm.
Your choice then outranks the automatic match, and Prism will not quietly swap it back while the upload runs.
To undo one, choose Clear link on the block. It returns to its automatic match, or to the presenter voice if no match applies.
When a drop is refused
- Drop only onto narration blocks — footage and soundbite blocks show no target
- Finish editing a block before dropping onto it, because open blocks take nothing
- Wait for a recording to finish processing, since an unfinished one cannot be linked
- Keep to one output, as a recording from another output is refused with a message
Unsupported or oversized files are turned away at the block as well as in the panel.
Blocks covers which kinds of block a script holds.
FAQ
Does a low confidence figure mean the match is wrong?
Not on its own. Play the block back, and relink it by hand if the audio is not the read you meant.
What happens to blocks I never link?
They are offered to the presenter voice when you commit, which Committing a script explains.
