Styles and presets

How styles, presets, brand kits and guides differ.

Script styles, video styles, presets, brand kits and guides decide how a Prism video is written, cut and dressed.

You pick most of them at the Assignment Desk, when you brief a video.

The five objects

ObjectWhat it controls
Script styleHow the words are written
Video styleHow the edit is cut and dressed
PresetA whole brief saved as one choice
Brand kitYour logos, colours, fonts, graphics and music
GuideReference the writer consults: pronunciation, or house style

A style is one dimension of the recipe. A preset is the whole recipe.

How they nest

A preset holds a presenter, a script style, a video style and the format.

A script style holds the guides attached to it. A video style can link a brand kit, which is how your visual material reaches an edit.

Guides attach to a script style, never to a preset directly. If a name is being mispronounced, the guide is the place to fix it.

Brand kits do not change the writing. Editorial instruction lives in a style or a guide.

Where each one lives

Presets, video styles and script styles share one page, split into PRESETS, VIDEO STYLES and SCRIPT STYLES. Each tab has its own search, and a filter between Prism's own and your account's.

Brand kits and guides each have a page of their own. All three pages are reached from the icon rail down the left of the window.

Which one you need

  • Change what gets said, and how, with a script style
  • Change pacing, graphics and music with a video style
  • Repeat a whole brief without setting it again with a preset
  • Keep your logos, colours, fonts and music in a brand kit
  • Fix a pronunciation or pin a house rule with a guide

What you can make yourself

Prism ships styles and presets of its own, and your account can hold more.

The picker offers a Find field and the list itself; Prism's own entries and your account's sit together in it.

Prism's are read-only. Your account's are yours to change.

You can create presets, script styles, brand kits and guides. Video styles are the exception: there is no create control, so you choose one rather than build one.

Everything you make belongs to your account. On Team and Enterprise plans, everyone on the account can use it.

Choosing them in a brief

You choose a presenter, a script style and a video style for every video at the Assignment Desk. A preset fills all three at once. Briefing a video covers each slot, and what happens when a video style sets the other two.

Where to go next

Your first video walks the whole brief end to end, from an empty project to a rendered file.

Core concepts covers projects, outputs and blocks — the objects these styles are applied to.
