Glossary

Every term Prism uses, defined once.

Prism uses a small vocabulary, consistently. Terms are grouped by where you meet them, rather than alphabetically.

The places

Home — where Prism opens. Carries the wire feed and your recent work.

Assignment Desk — where you brief a video. You choose a presenter, a script style and a video style here, and Prism creates from that brief.

Writers Room — where the script is reviewed and rewritten, before any picture is cut. The left rail labels it Script.

Editing Suite — where the edit is arranged: the timeline, the tracks and the preview. The left rail labels it Video Editor.

Distribution — where a finished render is watched and downloaded.

Task Manager — a panel showing what Prism's agents are working on, in four lanes, with counts for queued, in progress, needing review and completed work.

The things you make

Project — the unit of work. One story, with all its material and every video cut from it.

Project Library — the material available to one project. A panel inside the project, not a library of projects.

Output — one video. A project can hold several.

Block — one piece of a script, in order. Blocks are what you author.

Bumper — a branded opening or closing element in a script.

Commit — the step that hands a finished script to the video editor, which builds the edit from its blocks.

Build — one run of the video editor, which cuts an edit from a script. Each build that finishes spends output minutes.

Render — the finished video file produced from an edit.

The things you choose

Presenter — the voice that delivers the script, with a mode governing how much personality it carries.

Anchor video — a filmed presenter read, uploaded so the presenter appears on camera.

Script style — how the words are written.

Video style — how the edit is cut and dressed. You pick a video style; you do not build one.

Preset — a saved combination of the choices above, applied in one click.

Brand kit — your logos, colours, fonts and music.

Guide — reference material for the writer. There are two kinds: pronunciation and style.

The things Prism finds

Asset — a single piece of material in your library. Video, image, audio, text, research or website.

Scene, moment, shot — what Prism finds inside your footage when it analyses it. You select from them; you do not create them.

SOT — sound on tape. A speaker's own words, taken from footage you already have.

The wire

Story — a news event on the wire feed. Usually a cluster rather than a single item.

Package — one agency's video coverage of a story. A single story often carries several, from different agencies and at different lengths.

Elsewhere

Workspace — a grouping your account belongs to, chosen from the selector at the top of the home screen.

Credits — what work in Prism spends. Every plan includes a monthly allowance, and you can top up.
